hardwired verses wireless alarms...will we be okay with a wireless one?

Question
We are worried about wireless being not that great and not as reliable. Any help would be appreciated! Also, will this be a pain to keep changing batteries in our system if we choose wireless?
Answer
It depends on the wireless system you are considering and if you are going to do it yourself or have it professionally installed. I had a wireless X-10 system I installed myself and it wasn't all that great. I then picked up an Ademco wireless system a few years back and it has been very reliable. The X-10 used 9 volt batteries that needed frequent changing but the ademco unit uses lithium batteries that seem to last forever. The ademco system is usually sold and installed by alarm professionals. I had a friend pick one up for me and I did the installation myself. One good thing about wireless is you dont have much wires to run so you can "do it yourself"
